How to Green Your Funeral

Not everyone has access to a green burial or human composting facility. Many of us, due to location or finances, will choose a more conventional burial or a cremation. But if you’re looking for ways to make your conventional funeral a little more eco-friendly, here are some suggestions and a list of products that may be for you.

  • Consider aquamation, a greener alternative to flame cremation.
  • Use or make a casket with sustainable materials.
  • Ask family and friends to contribute flowers from their gardens.
  • Select burial clothing made of natural materials or consider a shroud.
  • Use a favorite or vintage object for an urn, or select one made from sustainable materials.

We’ve put together some sources for eco-friendly products, everything from biodegradable urns, to the highly requested “just put me in a pine box” box, to DIY coffins and shrouds.
